Manchester United fans returning to Old Trafford tomorrow for the first time in 14 months must adhere to a new code of conduct designed to reduce the risk of COVID-19.
The 10,000 United supporters who attended the game with Fulham on Tuesday were also told that any use of torches, field invasions or vandalism will be punished.
Old Trafford was recently the scene of protests against the Glazer family, with the game against Liverpool being postponed on May 2nd while there were further protests on Thursday for the rescheduled game.
Both protests included some clashes with police and flares and smoke bombs being used off the ground, while the protest before the first game saw some fans come onto the field.
The game against Fulham marks the first time fans have been allowed to play at Old Trafford since March 8, 2020, but participants have been advised to expect some game day changes.

Collette Roche, United Chief Operating Officer, said: “Matchday at Old Trafford will be a little different for the fans who were successful in voting for the game in Fulham.
“We have a new code of conduct to ensure people’s Covid safety and fans are required to arrive at set times due to social distancing protocols. We also introduced digital ticketing, which means fans with tickets must bring photo ID. All of this is to keep people as safe as possible and to enable us to welcome larger crowds again next season and we are confident that fans will understand the need for these procedures.
“Even if some things will change, it is important to emphasize that our usual land regulations remain in place. We remind everyone that inconsiderate, inconsiderate or anti-social behavior by visitors to Old Trafford will not be tolerated. The use of torches in the stadium is sanctioned by the club and any attack on the pitch or vandalism will be prosecuted.
“Our goal is to make sure the game is peaceful and fans with tickets can enjoy their return to Old Trafford.”

Here’s what fans participating in the Premier League game against Fulham can expect from a game day that continues to be affected by the Covid-19 protocol.
What’s open?
In accordance with government guidelines, the United Megastore is now open, albeit with measures to protect staff and visitors. The museum and stadium tour – in addition to the Red Cafe – will start operating again on May 21st.
Supporters can keep up to date with the latest guidelines on the matchday Twitter account @ManUtdMatchday.
Alternatively, the United Contact Center can be reached between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. by phone on 0161 676 7770 or by SMS on 0161 850 3969.
What is expected of fans?
In order to keep the supporters as safe as possible, United will provide facilities to maintain Covid-19 hygiene. The club will also use all data responsibly to facilitate NHS testing and traceability procedures and to provide clear communication about decisions and processes. In the meantime, fans who are allocated tickets are asked to do the following;
- Plan ahead and get to the stadium within the allotted time frame
- Wear face covering except when eating or drinking (regulatory exemptions apply)
- Disinfect your hands regularly
- Stick to the rules of social distancing
- Be responsible and respect other fans and MUFC staff
Trips to Old Trafford
Regardless of which mode of transportation you plan to use, fans should allow plenty of time to ensure they arrive within the timeframe allotted to them.
Fans are asked to come by car if possible. If you arrive by car, there is sufficient parking space available on the premises and can be booked in advance according to the “first come, first served” principle (manutd.com/tickets).

According to government guidelines, backers must avoid car sharing with anyone outside their household or the support bubble. Due to possible road closures – and ongoing road construction projects in the area – fans are advised to keep an eye on the closures and construction sites to ensure a smooth journey.
Ladywell, Sale Water Park, East Didsbury and Parkway Metrolink stops all have park and ride sites where you can park your car and end your tram ride to Old Trafford.
If you travel by public transport, there may be limited offers. Fans can use the Wharfside Tram Stop on Trafford Wharf Road to get back downtown. However, this stop can be very busy. So consider the Old Trafford, Trafford Bar, Exchange Quay and Salford Quays tram stops, which are also just a short walk from the stadium. Please stay in your social bubble one more time.

Arrival at Old Trafford
Once tickets have been allocated, supporters will be allocated an arrival window in advance to minimize the queues. Since this can be earlier than you are used to getting to a game, you may need to change your travel plans.
Fans must get to Old Trafford on the north side via Wharfside Way. A secure fence was erected on the eastern forecourt. Therefore, trailers approaching from Chester Road must walk north across the canal and enter via Wharfside Way. Before gaining access to the stadium, please note the following:
- It must be the named ticket holder who visits the game
- Fans aged 16 and over must be able to present ID
- All supporters are encouraged to download the NHS Covid-19 app and check-in at Old Trafford
- Please do not bring any bags or other restricted items into the stadium (see manutd.com/safety).
- Elevators should only be used by those who require them
- If you have specific accessibility requirements, contact MUFC on 0161 676 7770
