Old Trafford is the legendary home of Manchester United, but it has not been the home of the Man United women’s team in a few years.

The women will play for the first time at Old Trafford on March 27 when they face West Ham in the Women’s Super League.

United, currently third in the table, have never played at Old Trafford since their inception in 2018.

Casey Stoney, Manchester United manager, said: “Playing at Old Trafford is obviously going to be a special moment in the history of this team and it is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the women’s game which has seen tremendous growth over the past few years.

The men’s first team player, Marcus Rashford, wrote on Twitter: “Yes, men and women right where they deserve. There’s no feeling like playing at OT. Enjoy it, we’re here for you.”

Man United’s women’s team played their home games at Leigh Sports Village. The rugby league team Leigh Centurions and United’s U19 and U23 teams are also located on the site, which has a capacity of 12,000 players.

Unfortunately, Old Trafford, which can seat 74,000 people, will be empty when the United women play there for the first time due to coronavirus restrictions.

“We will of course miss our fans. They are such an important part of this club and we could feel their great support from afar throughout the season,” said Casey Stoney.

“We are all keen to get them back in the stands as soon as possible and we hope there are many more opportunities to play at Old Trafford in the future.”

Also on March 27, Spurs Women will play rival Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It is the second season in a row that the game has been played in the 60,000-seat stadium. Although no fans will be admitted during this time, a WSL record of 38,262 viewers was seen last year.

This time fans can watch online for free on the club’s website.

A statement on the website said the stadium will try to recreate the homely atmosphere by printing fans’ homemade designs displayed on flags and banners: “Spurs Women want you to be there in spirit by They provide flags and banners for us to display in the stadium, “said the club on its website.
