How has the Premier League season unfolded?

Fans attending Manchester United games at Old Trafford will need to prove their COVID status to enter the stadium.

From December 30, when United host Burnley, all supporters aged 18 and over visiting Old Trafford must show proof of double vaccination with a valid NHS COVID passport or valid COVID-19 status or proof of valid Be able to provide text or email confirmation of a negative lateral flow or PCR test performed within 48 hours or valid proof of a Therapeutic Use Exemption via NHS COVID Passport.

Those fans who cannot meet any of these criteria will be denied entry to the stadium, while those who are admitted must wear a face covering in indoor areas of the stadium, such as concourses or hospitality areas, except when eating or drinking.

The measures put in place by the Government will apply to all events in England with crowds of over 10,000 people until further notice.

Collette Roche, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Alongside the Premier League, Manchester United remain committed to keeping fans safe throughout the season.

“We have been mandated by the Government to implement these new rules and we urge all fans to prepare accordingly for matches they intend to attend.

“It is particularly important that fans download their NHS COVID Passes onto their phones before traveling to Old Trafford and that they arrive at the stadium early to avoid delays at the turnstiles where we will be conducting extensive spot checks.”

United reopened their training ground on Monday – a week after it was closed to first-team operations due to a Covid outbreak.

United players, who are not currently in isolation, arrived at Carrington’s training ground this morning and were required to undergo a Covid test on arrival, which had to be negative in order for them to be allowed into the complex.

The players who were granted access to the training center are believed to have done some strength and conditioning work, with full squad training still considered off-limits.

Players including United captain Harry Maguire arrived at the training ground this morning to start preparation for their next game on December 27 in Newcastle.

United’s last two games against Brentford and Brighton have been postponed after interim boss Ralf Rangnick was left with just nine first-team players following a Covid outbreak.

A statement from United said: “Manchester United players have started a staggered return to training at Carrington.

The complex was closed to first-team operations last week due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the club, but reopened this morning.

As such, interim manager Ralf Rangnick and his squad now have time to prepare for our next game – the Premier League game against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday 27 December.”
