How Man City goalkeeper James Trafford fared in his England U21 debut against Kosovo

James Trafford kept a clean sheet in his England Under-21 debut as the Young Lions recorded an emphatic 5-0 win against Kosovo.

Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer bagged a brace, with Hull’s Keane Lewis-Potter and Everton’s Anthony Gordon also on target as well as an Ilir Krasniqi own goal.

Lee Carsley’s side had already qualified for the 2023 European Championships in Romania and have now won eight of their nine matches.

The Young Lions are now six points clear at the top of Group G ahead of Monday’s final group match against third-place Slovenia at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Trafford was given an opportunity after impressing during several appearances for the Under-20 side and made four saves in total as Carsley’s men strolled to victory.

The 19-year-old was a regular starter for Wanderers last term after joining on loan from Manchester City in the January window.

He kept nine clean sheets in 22 appearances as Ian Evatt’s men finished ninth in the League One table.

And Evatt is keen to bring Trafford back to the UniBol next season as the Whites aim to push for promotion to the Championship.

Amadou Bakayoko also featured on the international stage, coming off the bench for the final 30 minutes as Sierra Leone suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria on Thursday.

And Dion Charles came on for the final 22 minutes as Northern Ireland were beaten 3-2 by Kosovo in the Nations League.

Ian Baraclough’s side are currently third in their group, having picked up one point from three games so far, and are back in action against Cyprus on Sunday afternoon.
