A doctor from Trafford runs a marathon in honor of “his most vulnerable patients”.

Dr. Simon Latham, a 36-year-old family doctor from Sale, was inspired to run the London Marathon after working with victims of domestic violence.

He plans to raise more than £ 3,000 for the Trafford Domestic Abuse Service (TDAS), which has assisted some of his patients.

Simon from Tower Family Healthcare said, “As a family doctor, I often see people in difficult situations. Unfortunately, this also includes patients who have experienced domestic violence.

“Having a service like TDAS available that supports some of my most vulnerable patients is critical.

“Last year TDAS helped more than 1,400 people in our community.

“You make a huge difference in people’s lives and I am proud to support your work.”

Simon has run a number of park runs, mostly at Wythenshawe Park and Sale Water Park, and started running with Sale Harriers a few years ago.

He trained for TDAS in London last year to run his first marathon but was never able to run it.

He hopes the extended training time will help him for his first marathon this time.

The London Marathon normally takes place in April but has been postponed to Sunday 3rd October to allow for greater social distancing.

Simon often runs with his family, who are also all members of Sale Harriers.

Samantha Fisher, TDAS CEO, said, “We have had an incredibly busy year and there was high demand for our services during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are delighted that Simon is running the London Marathon to raise money for us.

“This is the first time that a supporter has run the London Marathon for TDAS.

“If he reaches his fundraising goal, we will be able to provide much-needed group programs for adults and children suffering from the devastating effects of domestic violence exacerbated by the pandemic.

“We hope that as many people as possible will sponsor Simon and cheer him on as he draws attention to this important topic.”
