Rio Ferdinand has detailed his love for Old Trafford as the iconic Manchester United stadium prepares to undergo redevelopment over the coming months.

As reported by Manchester Evening News last month, key figures involved in the process are expecting to have a design in place within the next four months. Before that United confirmed the first stage of their renovation plans was to establish a high-level design and business case.

It means, moving forward, the landscape will change at Old Trafford as competitors reap the benefits of new built stadiums and similar projects. However, when backing up what transfer target Declan Rice said about the stadium, Ferdinand detailed his own lasting memories.

A man who needs no introduction in these parts, the former United captain turned pundit won six Premier League titles during his 12-year spell at Old Trafford. Ferdinand was, also, part of the Champions League-winning team from 2008 and earned 81 caps for England.

Speaking in January, West Ham star Rice said: “I was loving it. Every time I come to Old Trafford, I’ve always said it’s one of my favorite places to play. It’s an amazing stadium.”

During an appearance on the 433 Podcast, Ferdinand added: “This is my favorite place to play football whenever I think about football and some of my best moments, memories this is the stadium that comes to mind immediately. When you’re in the tunnel and you’re walking out, so many times, it just grabs you.

“When I walked out I’d look at the opposition sometimes, you would see the confidence go or the fear, especially with the team we had. This is what this type of stadium does. What Old Trafford has over all of the new stadiums , some are better facilities, but in terms of history, character, the memories that come straight to mind in this is one of the best.”
