Roma coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to sign Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot.

Mourinho brought the 22-year-old to Old Trafford in June 2018 but the transfer didn’t go as planned.

Dalot has only made 24 Premier League appearances for United since his £ 19million move from Porto.

Mourinho was sacked by the Red Devils just six months after the transfer and the player battled for minutes under his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dalot revived his stuttering career last season, playing 33 games in all competitions for AC Milan during one season.

His impressive performance in Italy earned him a place in the Portuguese squad for Euro 2020 and has won four international matches so far.

Despite his renaissance in Milan, Dalot has not played a Premier League game since returning to Old Trafford last summer.

And according to the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho wants to take advantage of United’s reluctance to play the defender.

Roma CEO Tiago Pinto is said to be talking to the Red Devils about a deal to bring Dalot to the Italian capital.

The player is believed to be agile and reunite with Mourinho, whom he sees as a “mentor”.

Roma reportedly aim to loan Dalot in January before finalizing a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

The loan fee is estimated at € 1.5m – about £ 1.3m – with United selling between € 13m in the summer.

The Roma are currently fifth in Serie A, ten points behind leaders Napoli.

In a speech earlier this month, Dalot insisted his lack of minutes at United was due to injury and sees his future at Old Trafford.

“When I went to Milan it was perfect to balance everything and come back to this season,” he said. “That’s why I wanted to stay here, fight for games and be an important player for the team.

“I wanted to stay here and the club trusted me to stay here. My mind was fully focused on playing an important role in this team.”

Dalot is currently competing for the position of right-back at Old Trafford with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has struggled this season.

“The nicest and healthiest competition is when there are two or three in every position and you can learn from each other,” added the Portuguese.

“I’m sure Aaron learns a lot from me when I play, I learn from him. Everyone will be a part of it this season.”

If Dalot decides to stay with United, he’ll have to convince the club’s new interim manager, Ralf Rangnick.

The German was signed on Monday and should take over the office until the end of the season before he becomes a consultant.

Commenting on Rangnick’s appointment, United legend Wayne Rooney said: “He’s obviously very much respected in the game and I think he’s got a tough job ahead of him.” [to].

“I don’t mean about his ability, his way of playing and pressing if you like, and how he likes to work.”
