NOT KEANE

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has been linked with a sensational return to Celtic as coach but is hoping it will go more smoothly than his only season as a player there.

Keane, 49, is currently the favorite to succeed Neil Lennon.

And while he was enjoying his time at Celtic and playing for the “brilliant fans”, he admits in retrospect that he is BANNED there at this point.

Two years ago he told an audience of fans at Waterfront Hall in Belfast: “I really enjoyed Celtic even though I did everything up there.

“I signed with Celtic in December and I hadn’t physically kicked a ball in two or three months. I left United with a broken foot.

“I’m going straight into a game up there, I tear my Achilles tendon twice. I’ve never justified my role in the club – if anything, I’m ashamed of my time at Celtic.

“What I really enjoyed at Celtic was that it was nice to be in a different changing room.

“I had a great vibe with the United boys, but the Celtic boys – Neil Lennon, Petrov, Varga – I really enjoyed the dressing room at Celtic.

“Celtic fans have to look at me, ‘You were rubbish,’ but it was nice to get a taste of brilliant Celtic fans.

“But obviously I’m a professional footballer and then the fight came and I saw the specialist about my hip and I still had a year on my contract.

“I had to go to the Celtic every day with my injuries and I was embarrassed. I was ashamed to collect wages. “
