Wrexham fans had a great day watching their Division 2 team take on Manchester United FA Cup fourth round at the Old Trafford.

The Welsh visitors fought hard and eventually lost 5-2.

Denis Irwin scored twice for United with the other goals of Ryan Giggs and Brian McClair. There was also an own goal.

The Red Devils reached the FA Cup final at Wembley and lost 1-0 to Everton.

The top scorer of the season was the winger Andrei Kanchelskis With 15 goals in all competitions.

January 23

Manchester City midfielder Alan Oakes scores a goal during the Blues 3-0 victory in the fourth round of the FA Cup Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Two of City’s destinations came from Colin Bell; the third was scored by Ian Bowyer. Unfortunately, the Blues ran out in the next round and fell 2-1 at home against Arsenal.

They did better in the European Cup Winners’ Cup and reached the semi-finals, where they lost 2-0 to Chelsea on two legs.

January 19th

It’s a historic day for that Manchester Ship Canal As a tug, the first tanker helps through the lock at the new oil terminal Eastham.

Construction of the Eastham Terminal, which cost £ 7 million to build, began in 1949. The aim was to moor large tankers that had no access to the ship canal.

Pipelines connected the Stanlow Oil Refinery to Eastham Terminal and Queen Elizabeth Dock. Another oil terminal was opened in Tranmere in 1960.
